Raising Capital as an Asian SPAC Sponsor

Raising Capital as an Asian SPAC Sponsor

In this episode of The SPAC Podcast, Claudius Tsang, CEO of A SPAC Holdings Group Corp, discusses the unique challenges and opportunities of raising capital in the U.S. as an Asian SPAC sponsor. Claudius explains the importance of educating U.S.-based investors on the credibility and track record of emerging market sponsors especially when those investors may be unfamiliar with Asian-led SPAC teams.

Drawing on his experience working with major U.S. funds earlier in his career, Claudius shares how that background has helped him build bridges with hedge funds and capital partners. He also makes the case for why global diversification, particularly in Asia and emerging markets, can provide long-term portfolio benefits for U.S. investors—if they’re willing to look beyond their borders.

Michael: Excellent. So when you’re looking at raising capital, where do you tend to do that and, you know, where does the SPAC come into play for you?

Claudius: I think when we try to raise capital in the U.S., it’s definitely a little difficult. A lot of U.S. investors and funds are not very familiar with Asian sponsors. So we have to explain our background and show our track record.

Fortunately, I have prior experience working with a major U.S. fund earlier in my career, which has helped me raise more capital from hedge funds and institutions. That background has been useful in bridging those conversations.

Right now, I believe the key challenge is helping U.S. investors understand that diversification particularly into Asia and emerging markets can actually enhance their portfolios, rather than focusing only on the U.S.
